Support
For the more technically minded among you, Windows servers can be set up to perform a variety of functions.
These include acting as a:
- Fileserver
- Proxy server
- DHCP server
- Web server
- WINS server.
- Mail server
- Remote access server
The last item on the above list - remote access - allows
you to dial in and work from outside the office. The remote
access capability enables people to collect and check their
email from anywhere in the world, as well as allowing Yellowstone
to provide remote diagnostics and support services.
The Windows server operating systems provide the basic
server functionality - designed to act as a data storage system.
Users of the system have to be logged onto the network before
they can save or retrieve their data. Windows Server also provides a high degree
of security in this respect, authenticating each user who
tries to log in, and controlling which resources on the network
they are able to access - which is something that a simple
peer-to-peer system (where a group of computers share their
resources without one being in overall control) cannot do.
There is a trade off between the cost of the server and it's
associated
software on one hand, and the ease of set up but lack of control
and
security provided by the peer-to-peer solutions. Yellowstone
can advise
on the best setup for your needs.
Once set up and running, we also provide maintenance services
to keep
your server in working order. This can take the form of a
full
maintenance contract, or ad-hoc visits when something needs
attending
to.
We can also design and build your fileserver for you, to
