Corporate Email SystemsNormally a company will have a domain name registered on the Internet, for example the company xyz Ltd could be xyz.co.uk. Holding such a domain name gives you the right to have any email addresses you like on that domain, for example j.bloggs@xyz.co.uk and a.other@xyz.co.uk. With your Internet Service Provider (ISP) all these mails should end up in one mailbox. You then need a POP3 mail server on your internal network to collect all that mail and split it up into individual mailboxes for each of your staff to collect from their machines. [POP3 is the protocol or language that incoming mail from the Internet arrives in]. Having a POP3 server on your own internal network eliminates the need for all of your staff to dial into the Internet to check for and collect their mail. The PCs used by the staff simply check the internal server at regular intervals (which does not generate an external phonecall to the Internet), while the POP3 server periodically checks with the Internet at prescribed intervals. Simply put, this kind of system has reduced one customer's ISDN bills from about £2000 per quarter to £600. The POP3 server Yellowstone provides is a package called VPOP3 from Paul Smith Computer Services. This package has been used successfully over a number of years by many of our customers and is a fully-featured, easy to set up and maintain product - yet low cost.
